Lewis Unglesby

Of Counsel/Trial Attorney

Back

Lewis O. Unglesby was born in New Orleans, LA. He received his J.D. from Louisiana State University and was admitted to the bar of Louisiana, U.S. District Court, Middle, Eastern and Western Districts of Louisiana, and U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit in 1974.

He is probably Louisiana’s most experienced courtroom lawyer, having won over 50 acquittals in state and federal courts. He has also successfully prosecuted multiple million dollar plus jury verdicts that have changed and improved the law throughout the country. For example: Unglesby won the first multi-million-dollar award in America for exposure to non-fatal toxic chemicals, was the first to prove and defend on appeal the defective nature of 3-wheelers and was successful in proving that forklifts should require seatbelts, which is now the rule.

He has argued before the Louisiana Supreme Court over 20 times. Unglesby was the youngest certified civil and criminal trial advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocates, the only lawyer in Louisiana recognized in 5 different legal specialties by Best Lawyers of America for the last 33 years and Martindale-Hubbell’s “Bar Register of Prominent Lawyers.” His cases have been featured on Good Morning America, the New York Times, CNN and several have been the subject of movies.

Unglesby has served as Special Counsel for Louisiana State Senate and represented numerous politicians and several Governors.
